We all know that walking barefoot can feel so good! Strolling along the cool earth earth where our feet can stretch out and breathe. Have you heard of “Earthing”? It is really just a fancy way to say walking around barefoot. While this simple practice sounds easy enough, there is some real science behind why earthing can make a huge improvement of your health.
Here’s How It Works:
Your skin is generally a good conductor. So when you connect your feet (particularly the middle balls of your feet) to the earth, there is a transfer of free electrons that flow into your body. These free electrons will travel through your body and tissues going after free radicals and eating up all the positively charged free radicals in the body. The negative electrons we gather from the earth cancel out the positive (which are the free radicals) and viola!; reduced inflammation throughout the body, better cell turnover, and a positive effect on your blood.
Most diseases are caused by chronic inflammation. Plastic and rubber soles on modern shoes act as an insulator, blocking the earth’s electrons from penetrating the body. Grounding your body to the earth decreases inflammation, improves sleeping, and boosts your immune system.
You can keep grounded regularly by going barefoot outdoors when you can. Walking or laying on sand that is close to water seems to be the most beneficial followed by dewy grass. If you needed an excuse to take a nice morning stroll through your yard or local park- you now have it. Reflexology recommends walking barefoot outside or in when you can. It stimulates pressure points on the feet that contribute to overall health.
While summer is still here- go ahead and take that trip to the beach and give yourself a daily dose of grounding. It may be just what the doctor ordered.
